You may frequently encounter errors while using video translation software, such as the errors in the title and the images below.

The error message typically contains the following characters:

HTTPSConnection

Connection error

ConnectionError

HTTPSConnectionPool

Max retries exceeded with url

The error mainly occurs in the following 3 scenarios:

  • Selecting Google/OpenAI ChatGPT/Gemini/ in the translation channel.

  • Selecting OpenAI TTS/Elevenlabs.io/GoogleTTS in the voiceover channel.

  • Selecting OpenAI recognition API/ in the speech recognition.

Why does this happen? There are several main reasons:

Services that cannot be directly accessed in China require a VPN, otherwise, errors are inevitable.

From the above 3 scenarios, it can be roughly seen that these are services that need to connect to foreign APIs. As we all know, due to the Great Firewall, China cannot directly access them. If you want to use them, you must use a VPN. If your computer cannot open Google's website (https://www.google.com) or OpenAI's official website (https://chat.openai.com), then errors are inevitable.

The computer has a VPN and can open Google, but the proxy is filled in incorrectly.

If your computer can access Google normally, but the translation software still has errors, please check whether the Network Proxy text box in the software interface is filled with a proxy address. If there is content in it, but you don't know what that content means or what its purpose is, and it is not your intentional behavior, please delete it and try again.

If it still doesn't work, please check the VPN tool you are using and find the HTTP proxy port number indicated in it. If your VPN tool is running on your computer, then fill in http://127.0.0.1:port number in the text box. For example, v2ray series software generally fills in http://127.0.0.1:10809, and clash series software generally fills in http://127.0.0.1:7890.

Special Note: If you don't understand what the above paragraph is saying, delete all the content in the Network Proxy text box and keep it blank, don't fill in anything. That is, either don't fill it in, or make sure it is correct and is a usable proxy address.

Remember not to fill in the Network Proxy text box randomly or fill in some website addresses or some API addresses. Either don't fill it in, or fill in a usable and connected proxy address and port.

The software will automatically obtain the proxy from the system by default. Generally, if the computer already has a VPN, then even if the Network Proxy text box is kept blank, these services can still be accessed, but the acquisition may fail due to restrictions such as permissions, security policies, security software, and firewalls.

If there is no problem with the computer's access, but the software still frequently reports errors, please fill in the correct proxy address in the Network Proxy text box.

Domestic translation and AI services do not support using foreign proxies or foreign IP addresses to access them.

When using Baidu Translate/Tencent Translate/ByteDance Volcano Engine Translate/Doubao Model Recognition in the translation software, if you encounter network connection errors or prompts for unsupported authorization, the possible reason is that you are using a foreign IP address (such as a VPN foreign node/VPN tool, etc.) when connecting.

These domestic translation and AI services are all prohibited from being accessed by foreign IP addresses. If you use a proxy to access these services, then errors are certain. You only need to delete the content in the Network Proxy text box and, if necessary, close the VPN tool on your computer.
